i'm studying electronics engineering (1 year to MS).
i would like to do other things as well as to study. I could:
- study english and get TOEFL (yes..i'm studying it..)
- to do electronics projects (build robots or analog things blablaa)
- to write a popular book on electronics (but who will publish it? who will buy it?)
- what else?
i don't want to toss the time.. i want to do something useful.. but what?

You may consider to work with Alex at the University of Manchester...

You can start by editing the thread title , by adding the words " study - work " .
How good are you doing at your studies s.mosfet?
Alex
if your looking for something social join a local Rotaract club (
www.rotaract.org.uk) or if you want to do something in line with electronics study a different field of it.
i'm good at university,
am i getting a sort of job?
In this case, contact me in private, please.
The reason I asked was to see if you should be studying harder or taking on more things.
If you are not in desperate need of money, and since you said you dont want to just kill time, then my advise would be take on something that helps your professional development.
A second language is an excellent start, especially English. You mentioned you were studying for a TOEFL?
I would refrain from writing a book on electronics. I am sure you are good, dont get me wrong. But I would buy a book if it offered that extra value from the unfiltered content online. To do this you need to have, some more than others, mastered the topic your book is concerned with, and this can take many years.
Since you like projects, you can setup or upgrade your lab at home?
Another thing you can do, is explore post-graduation opportunities. Maybe you can find an employer before graduating!
You can further develop your technical skills, like reading books on EMC, familiarising yourself with an industry-standard CAD package, get started on programmable logic devices (if you have not already) and so on.
Soft, transferrable skills are increasingly important too. Things that are seamingly simple, like presentation skills, report wrting skills, teamworking, project management etc will all arm you with the tools you will need for your future career.

Some EEs will sneer, but you could take up Amateur Radio.
There are a lot of things you can do in this hobby, such as Digital Communications, contact other 'Hams' via Satellites, design & construct Radio equipment & antennas, talk around the world on HF radio,or just plain chat with other people interested in technical stuff.
Above all,you get hands-on experience with real-world Electronics.
Like this forum,Amateur Radio has people of all levels of expertise, from beginners to extremely knowledgable
EEs.

I want to do something to increase my skills... but i don't know what can be useful in my future job.
(surely the english.. and then?)
I'd like to be:
- an entrepreneur in electronics (mm but what type of company?)
- to work in a R&D in an electronics company (but in Italy??)
and i want to do something creative, that differentiates me from others!
Go and talk with the careers counsellor at your educational institution

Eeek.
I'd just find something you enjoy doing, and well, do it.
Dave.
How about setting up a local electronics club to pursue projects? Not a hacker space, a proper electronic projects club. Online forums are not a substitute. In fact, you might be able to get your university involved too, somehow (maybe a society?).
When i was talking about to write a book, i wasn't thinking about a technic book, but a book about the history of electronics or something similar. Can be a publishable?
For example "the physics of superheroes" (by kakalios) is a best seller (i think...)
Maybe i should find something more original than a simple "history of electronics"..
Maybe i should find something more original than a simple "history of electronics"..
I think so too. I mean, thinking backwards, what book would you buy?
In terms of books, how about a biography of someone you admire in this field? Maybe one of the analogue pioneers that passed away recently? I would be interested in such a book, if it doesn't exist already.
Alex
i was thinking about something interesting for the larger number of people.
I thinks it's difficult to sell a Biography of someome like Bob Pease.
mm.. a book on the strangeness of the inventors?
ufff. why i have this need to fulfill myself?
This is why:
Take some days off, think of something else, and revisit your quest until you find something you like.
