A meal out for Mr and Mrs Dave Jones
« on: January 12, 2014, 10:18:11 pm »
I had a simple idea for Dave, for Mrs Jones (sorry Dave; I don't know her name) and for little Sagan:

I wonder if we could have a whip round to pay for Dave & family to have a meal out away from work. I truly and sincerely appreciate the endless education and entertainment you provide to us all on a weekly basis - I know its your job, but regardless of whether or not you get paid for it, I think we (I'm speaking for myself for now) could all throw some money in a pot to let you and your dear family know how much we appreciate you as a person, as a gifted engineer, and as someone I feel is like one of my mates, (even if I've not met you mate).

I've very little to donate right now - but I can't think of someone who's more deserving of a meal out, totally disconnected from any aspect of work related things. Mate - if I had £100 spare I'd front the whole wedge myself, and would not be asking this communally... but right now I dont.

I believe that when you give what you can, God blesses you tenfold.  That's not my motivation, but I DO want to bless you with the little I have, and of others want to follow, they can do, or not - its not about who gave what, I just had this idea in my head for Dave for ages, and wanted to put it into action :)

I know you can afford a night out... probably even a few, but I want to try to have a collection - voluntary and preferably anonmously - just because I love you mate, and appreciate everything SO MUCH.

Noone need reply - just do whatever you feel peace about in your heart - if Dave can give us his PayPal address, whoever feels the same as me and would like to, can send him a bit - marked with the text "meal out" or similar.

I hope this doesn't make anyone feel under pressure or awkward - believe me - my contribution is almost insignificant, but Dave - its a gift mate - just want you to know HOW many times your voice is heard on my pc... how much you're appreciated :)

Right: what's your PayPal Mr Jones? No arguments :D

Cheers.

You do know Aussies (and Kiwis for that matter) use their BBQs for their Christmas family dinners?  :wtf:
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Thanks for the generous thought and offer, but I already get many regular generous Paypal donations that allow me to do just that any time I like, and we do.
In fact I just took a 7 day vacation and did nothing but sit on beach and eat out  :-+
Well, ok, I did some work in the hotel room too, but that's as close as a nerd like me gets to talking time off.

Well you're welcome Dave; its an open offer, so feel free to claim it. Please send me your details anyway - I can at least buy you a coffee... or a coke? Please do - I want to do it - I'm not obliged but want to mate; you make me wanna visit Oz if they're all as down go earth as you :-)

Cheers :)

You can donate to him via PayPal on the main site and attach a message demanding that he buy a coke with it.
No longer active here - try the IRC channel if you just can't be without me :)

And here's some footage of that. (Dave took a trip in his Delorean and will post this video 4 years ago.)

Whoa! How the hell did Dave know that Bob is my uncle? Amazing!

but you may want to avoid putting anything about "money for coke" in the payment info.....

Think I'll send him an Arduino and PI so he can do some real electronics.

'Ar - du - I - no' that you're not being facetious? ;)

I nearly mistook you for a sharp-witted scarecrow, because you're outstanding in your field...

He saw Raspberry Pie on the menu, but it turned out not to be electronics.
