I have recently reinstalled my Windows XP because of what I thought was a virus infection.
However, since then I cannot view continuously Youtube videos, they stop after a few seconds then I need to click again to continue viewing. I found on internet, the reason may be an ad blocker but there is no such setting I believe.
What can be the cause of this?

Hi,

I had pretty much the same problem before. Strangely it happened out of nowhere...I used to use firefox with adblock when i was suddently getting similar problems.
I then switched to google chrome (also in combination with adblock) and i wasn't having any issues anymore.

PS: You might wanna use the "Bookmarked tabs to the front" addon for the same bookmark-behavior as firefox.

If you have a cheap wireless mouse or keyboard check the batteries. Sometimes when they get flat they start doing random things, like clicking (which would stop your video)

Also, if you reinstalled windows make sure you install all the needed drivers.
chipset / directx / video / flash / etc.

There was another thread about this not too long ago. It seems to be a common problem. I had the problem myself for the longest time. It seems to have gone away in the last couple of days, though.

I think the problem is/was with YouTube's streaming algorithm. They seem to have changed it recently and they no longer stream the entire video all at once.

The workaround for the problem is/was to stop the video and switch to a different quality then back to the original quality. This seems to allow the old behavior where the entire video would be allowed to be streamed.

It's interesting that switching to Chrome fixes the problem considering who makes Chrome and who owns YouTube.

YouTube is a nightmare.

Neurotically unable to stick to one design; every second month it's different!

Excessive copyright controls. (Why do copyrighted and de-listed videos still show in search?)

Excessive ads. Actually Adblock Plus eliminates that.

But there are no other options.

The best way to tackle some of these random problems is to either disabled any addons you are not using or if on Firefox you might want to check up on updates or moving down from any recent update. I had a strange video related issue which was somewhat like what you are experiencing and it turned out to be my video driver.

I have a very slow internet speed, due to the distance from the exchange so I have to download all video for which I use real player. Now suddenly 2 days ago I find that I cannot down load any video at all and that includes Dave's. I have removed and re-installed Real player and tried a couple of other downloaders nothing works. I am really peed of at the moment.

Yuck Real Player......... Toss it out and use VLC. To download use Flashgot with Firefox, works well.

I use VLC for play back but have not found anything as good as realplayer for the download. It has the automatic do you want to down load this or it used to. I also use Chrome as browser will flagshot work with that I will give it a go.

The same problem occurs with Google Chrome and Internet explorer too.
I am using firefox and Opera mostly.
Strangely my second computer shows the same problem although they are not interconnected but both of them run on Windows XP.
Whereas my laptop which has a W7 operating system does not have that problem and I can watch youtube videos normally on my laptop.
I tried to reinstall XP 3 or 4 times but that did not solve my problem.
I do not have a wireless mouse on this computer.

I also tried that and it does not work for me unfortunately.
That does not seem to be a youtube specific problem.
I got an error message on the eevblog web page. It seemed to complain about a java or javascript related problem. But I do not get that message any more.
The same problem occurs with dailymotion videos too.
This is a problem with streaming videos only.
All videos stop at around 11 sec.
Finally I switched to html5 and now I cannot not play videos at all.

What's your flash version?
Oh and please check your chrome version too
Plus update your java if possible

I have downloaded and installed a new version of Java but the problem persists, anyway I shall have to watch youtube videos on my laptop for a while.

Chrome seems to have broken a lot of thing recently. My mother in law complained that she could not print of her emails today, I had a look her printer is fine and works with every thing other than chrome, only way to get it to print in chrome is Ctrl.+Shift+P command. Ctrl. P does not work and neither will the print button, So I had a look at my computer and using either Ctrl.P or the print button prints one extra totally blank page now, so the latest update is obviously buggy.

No! it's interesting that even on chrome the damn thing does not work !!!! I suspect it could also be issues with ISP's as morre and more use is made of youtube.

It is SP2. It does not automatically upgrade to SP3 like before. But my second computer runs on XP SP3 and it has the same problem. I connect my laptop with Win7 to internet through the same ISP and it works fine.

I have win7 and running chrome, they have no excuse, as I said in a thread I started either youtube have issues with coping or have changed something due to a panic or as someone suggested the ISP is throttling.

Nah it was non of those reasons... It was a sound card driver missing... in fact I could not install it. Finally I realized I am using the wrong driver for the wrong card. Now that it is installed youtube works fine. The ISP people told me it may be a driver problem and in fact it is. Sorry to keep you busy with this.
