I have been trying Copilot as aid in fixing my T113-S4 DDR initialization problem for a while now and thought of a fun experiment to test some of the capabilities.

EEVBlog is captcha locked.  This means that the bot can't read it directly.

Search engines are, I believe permitted as Google et. al. have fair recent search results.

So what the bot is basically doing for you is search google for EEVBlog: query

If it does have stuff in it's training about EEVBlo in general it will be from elsewhere.... or the training spiders got through somewhere, somehow, probably pretending to be a search engine.

Didn't take long for Claude to figure it out. No searches / tool uses, so my posts are in the training data.

So what does that say about EEVBlog's anti-bot mechanisms?  Maybe it scraped before they were implemented?  Did Dave permit it?  Did it get past the bot check?

Or did it proxy them through a search engine in training.

EDIT:  I ran the same query and while it correctly pulled key identifiers from context, my account email address and correctly extracted my full name from it... it did not match me on EEVBlog.

To be honest, my guess wasn't based on EEVBlog training data at all — I was just reasoning from information visible in this session: your home directory (/home/paul)
   and your email address (x@x) which the system context provides me.                                                                       

  So it wasn't really a "trained on EEVBlog" guess — it was more of a "I can see your name and domain right here" deduction. Not very impressive as a party trick!     
   
  As for whether EEVBlog content made it into my training data despite anti-scraping measures: I genuinely don't know. Anthropic doesn't publish a detailed list of   
  sources. It's possible some content came in via:
  - Common web crawls (like Common Crawl) that predated bot protections                                                                                               
  - Mirrors or archives (e.g. Wayback Machine)                                                                                                                         
  - Third-party datasets that aggregated forum content
                                                                                                                                                                       
  But I don't have reliable recall of specific EEVBlog threads or users from training — forum content like that tends to be noisy and hard to attribute. I can't       
  actually verify the scraping/anti-bot angle either way.

Don't know how Copilot got the EEVblog data to make its first guess on, but it must have had something to extract DavidAlfa from it, and later on pcprogrammer, which it determined could not be me based on the other interaction I had with it.

But with search machines like google having access to EEVblog, would this not also be available for an AI when it learns how to use such a search engine. It would not be in the AI company its interest to block it from using the same companies search engine.

Having played with Copilot the last couple of weeks did make me appreciate a bit more, but there are still issues that rub my feathers the wrong way. Like for instance my baidu quest. I informed copilot of not having a login there, and it still came up with possible solutions that need a baidu login, but failed to tell me in advance. So I went through hoops to run into the login issue, telling Copilot about it and then having it state, "Oh yes, that route still requires a login"  |O

Another example was when I was hunting down a specific document. At some point Copilot told me "Maybe available on the dark web" and offered it as an option. Ah, I thought that is interesting, lets see if it can do this, to only be told that it was not allowed to search the dark web. So why offer it then in the first place.  :-//

Also the "I aim to please" thing bothers me from time to time. Offering a large selection of options I did not ask for. Stick to the point and don't try to be a wise ass is my feeling in these cases.  :-DD

…which is in fact my EEVblog handle. First attempt. No web search. No breadcrumbs in the question itself. Just pattern matching from months of obscure discussions I had and stored on OpenAI server under my session memory.

After having a small argument one day with someone saying AI will be able to out code anyone soon I tried it out.

My position was that AI might be able to write all your code if you write boring vanilla business code, but the kind of code I write for fun (that has not commercial value) it will never be able to do.

After coaching the AI for some time and asking it questions to try lead it to the answer I gave up.  It got close sometimes but kept drifting back to generic ideas.

After that I asked it if it could work out who the author of the code I was showing it online as examples was.

It got my first name (easy) and the city I lived in (scary) but then when I prompted for more info on the author it then went off the rails and made up a name and other details that matched an actor from Neighbors in the 90s and said that I also was a major contributor to some open source network analysis tool I had never heard of and that I lived in Melbourne.

I am convined for now AI is just a really fancy version of Eliza.

Every AI bot on the planet used EEVblog as a training source, it's a gold mine for them. We only implemented the captcha stuff fairly recently after the bots started impacting the forum performance, even bringing it to a standstill at once point IIRC.
I'm not sure how effective he captcha is at actually stopping the bots, gnif might be able to tell you as he wrote and implemented the system, but the main goal was to make sure they don't degrade the server performance.

I see this too. But it is good for having it make a framework for you. It certainly needs tweaking and testing, but it can speed things up.
