Non circular pads holes
« on: February 25, 2017, 07:02:50 am »
I was looking to see what cs is lacking. It appears you can not create slots in pads. All holes have to be circular? This seems a potential problem for some connectors. Any work around?

I apologize if I misunderstood what you are trying to find but is what you want not in the pad editor?

That's it, thanks. I have a comparison sheet between Altium Designer and Circuit Studio features. Maybe it's outdated.

I am seriously considering Circuit Studio for professional work and trying to find anything that might be a show stopper.

I just downloaded the trial version today and started playing with it.  Saved an existing AD16 board as AD 5.0 binary and imported to CS.  That worked fine but I quickly saw I had a ton of DRC errors.  The design rules transferred over but the main thing I saw was that CS does not have a Query option for building design rules, nor did I see an option to build design rules around net classes.  I don't know if this is a showstopper but it certainly will take some workarounds and possible a lot more effort into building the design rules for a project.

TrevWhite can you share the comparison sheet you've made?

Some of the design rule stuff can be hacked outside of CS in a text editor and imported (e.g. all the query stuff works.)

CS's file format is a modified Altium Binary 6.0, so when doing conversions you might be better off saving in the 6.0 format and importing that instead of the 5.0.
