Experiments to try of any kind ?
« on: August 01, 2025, 07:21:35 am »
I wonder what this would be like...if you took an uncooked pizza, put it into a blender, and then tried cooking it like a pancake on a frying pan ? I bet it would taste ok, especially if you add more cheese on top.

Some day I want to try a bunch of electromagnetism experiments too, but I just thought of the pizza thing. It's probably like some astronaut food in a tube.

That's a pretty random post.

The experiments I conduct are far more boring, such as how a part will behave under certain conditions, which aren't given on the data sheet./

I suspect it would be awful. Part of the enjoyment of foods is layers of flavors, with us often having more intensely flavored seasonings and sauces applied to milder substrates. (E.g. sauce and cheese on the comparatively bland dough.) Mixing them beforehand means you won’t get the initial “kick” of intense flavor we expect and enjoy.

As another example, I adore stir-fries (Chinese, Thai, etc). They’re typically served with white rice. I absolutely detest it when the stir-fry and the rice get mixed up in advance (i.e. any time before being united on my spoon), because it very much changes the taste compared to having them be joined right before entering my mouth. Some people take their whole plate of stir-fry and mix it with their plate of rice; to me, that becomes very bland, as the rice absorbs the sauce and thus effectively dilutes it by the time it hits my taste buds.

Of course, this needn’t be theoretical: in hospitals and nursing homes, there’s always the “mechanical” diet for people who are unable to chew. From what I have heard, it’s dreadful. (Ok, granted, they don’t subsequently fry a pancake out of it…)

Texture is also important, which is also changed when a food is mashed up. I think a pizza blended then fried with cheese would be palatable because it would crisp up. It does sound like a bit of a fag, so I wouldn't bother. I'd rather cook it in the oven, as intended.

I had a collogue who tried to make coffee out of energy drink. At the office. He had serious caffeine issues and sleeping disorders even at 20 something.
It wasn't successful.

I don’t know whether it’s still sold, but for a while you could buy caffeinated bottled water in USA, and apparently, instead of drinking it, people would use that to brew their coffee, making super-caffeinated coffee!

(I don’t care for coffee, so my caffeine intake is quite low. I don’t even dare drink a Coca Cola after 6pm or I won’t be able to sleep. I know that if I do drink a strong coffee, I’m still sleepy, but super jittery…)

that is u2 plane food

the secret is apparantly very sharp blades to actually cut the pizza instead of smashing it. Maybe better to cut like very fine noodles

you cut it very small, treat it with something that acts as a sealant and then mix it up

I was sort of picturing a burrito type pizza thing, so maybe not what a blender would do to a pizza. Yeah this should have been in some random thoughts thread

Science seems to be telling us to eat things that are less cut and worked and that you should let your digestive system 'do the work' if you can.

Having different contrasting textures and separate flavors is super important. If you blended an uncooked pizza until smooth and cooked it like a pancake it wouldn't come out good at all.

It would look like cat's vomit or cowshit. Visual appeal of food is also important.

I felt the OP used cooking as an analogy, they weren't interested in cooking food experiments specifically.

What electronics/physics/chemistry/psychological experiments are people doing?

My personal experimentation is with brain computer interfacing.

I made a pizza daiquiri once.  (After all the fruit and half the bottle of rum were gone. (leftover takeout pizza; not raw.)

It was awful.

The way in which different ingredients are cooked will make a difference to the flavour:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maillard_reaction

So the physical construction of the food makes a difference in that certain ingredients are subject to more/less heat

You could probably turn a pizza into soup. If you added more salt it might come out tasting ok, but it won't be anything like the flavour from eating a pizza.
I suspect the amount of dough will dilute the tomato/toping flavors to the point that it tastes weak.
