I am 15 years old and I need help to make an electronics lab for an electronics club that I'm making at school. We are a small group of low income, high school students. Most of us are interested in electronics. We have done a lot of research on the test equipment that we will need and we have concluded that if we go cheap then we can get everything for under $600. We tried to get help from the school but they couldn't help with much, but maybe you can help by donating to our GoFundMe. Sounds like a great idea. I think that a few low-cost multimeters and low-cost Logic Analyser would be far more useful for Arduino projects than an single low-end Oscilloscope.

Also, don't forget that there is free software like KiCAD that can be a very useful tool for drawing schematics, even if you don't use it to make PCBs.

What sort of projects do you think you will attempt?

We found a few cheap multimeters online and an oscilloscope that plugs into a pc but it is still a large price if you have any other recommendations then PM me Email removed by moderator. Please do not post personal details online.

I think you can get around the need of  buying most of the gear by making some of it yourself.  A power supply can easily be made from discarded electronics like a power amp.



  Making something yourself would a  good start for the club and great learning experience.  Learn by making - a lot of us started like this.  I made many power amps, frequency counters, remote control circuits, alarms and many others without a scope. Sure it would have been easier but not much.
A logic probe could be an interesting low cost project as well.


Need to also communicate your goal - what do you want to achieve ? 
What project are you guys/girls planning?
Analog? Digital ?   Programming?



A good start will be getting basic tools:

breadboards : for building projects
Wire
side cutters
multimeter
Soldering tools
Vent for solder fumes
Usb power supply for Arduino projects
Battery holder  4xAA or 4XD- as power supply.



I dont think  you need to start with advanced tools like Oscilloscope as they dont get much usage for beginners/learners.

But if you feel you need one build a probe and use sound card in laptop as a simple scope up to 50khz - might cost you $25 to build a probe for that.
If you need a scope and logic analyzer (which i think is not that important ) get the analog discovery 1 or 2  but that is $100 used  ...$300 new  but well worth it.

As someone mentioned. Buy a good logicanalyzer and a cheaper multimeter.

Salae logic has student discount and their logic analsyzers can be used as oscillscope form simple measurements. Do not go for a some dodgy ebay clone. They never work as expected!!
