Flipper Zero — Tamagotchi for Hackers
« on: April 20, 2020, 02:41:47 pm »

Hi everyone, I would like to introduce my project — Flipper Zero https://flipperzero.one/zero
It's a multi-tool device in Tamagotchi formfactor inspired by pwnagotchi project. This is an attempt to make a fully autonomous device that can be used without computer or smartphone, and controlled directly from built-in LCD display and buttons. The main idea of Flipper Zero is to combine all the phreaking hardware tools that you could need for hacking on the go.

Features:

  • 433 MHz range support (CC1111)
  • Infrared
  • 125 kHz RFID reader/writer/emulator
  • iButton 1-Wire reader/writer/emulator
  • (Maybe) NFC reader/writer (NXP PN532)

I would like to hear your opinion before crowdfunding started.

Ahah, I like it. Looks fun and no bullshit stuff such as Bluetooth and Wifi and whatnot. Actually something a bit different. ;D

Hah, like to know that someone can read this hieroglyphs. I think it looks so cyberpunk and futuristic :) I ask my friend from Japan to make a transliteration "Flipper" to japanese. is this a correct pronounce?

Hah, thank you. I'm tired of devices that can only works via smartphone application. But I clearly understand that lot of operations cannot be done just from 6 buttons and tiny display, so we are thinking to add bluetooth to version Zero, with simple NRF chip. Also we are developing a bigger version called Flipper One https://flipperzero.one/one based on i.MX6 SoC and powered by Linux. It will have WiFi and Bluetooth.

The Flipper Zero is a great idea! Looks like good DFM too.

May I make a suggestion? In the area near the USB-C connector where there is an inductor, could you place a small grid of pads with power, SPI, I2C, and interrupt broken out? Then people could 3D print their own lower part of the case with custom electronics which would connect to the main board. If you have the board area, and will release CAD files for the case, it could be a compelling selling point.

Yeah, we plan to add some holes near GPIO grid to attach 3d-printed modules but haven’t decided yet how to do it better.
