Pocket e-ink creativity device
« on: April 17, 2026, 08:21:56 am »
I am a engineering student and i am building this e-ink pocket device. I want to make a space dedicated for creativity, with writing as an input (also considering voice input), smart enough to give it structure (OCR, sending the note to productivity apps, mind maps), small enough to be always by your side when creativity strikes. I want it to be able to be something more than a paper but less than a phone. I am also considering being able to read epubs and other file formats for books, being also a small e-reader. For now, i am building a prototype with off the shelf components. The e-ink screen is a GooDisplay and the layer above is a resistive touchscreen. With an esp32 we have managed to make writing on this possible, but we are also considering other chips for scaling. The writing experience is very laggy, it has a refresh rate of 0.4 seconds, but is enough for now as a prototype. The size would be 4-5 inches (but the size is not the purpose, is the method to achieve it)

I am curious if this would help people and is solving a real problem, or am i just in a really small niche of people.

Some questions i invite you to respond:
-What problems would this device solve for you?
-How do you capture a spark of creativity when it strikes in tranzit moments (metro, waiting, walking)
-What problems does your method have and how do you solve it?
-What method of input do you think is the best (voice/writing/text/other)?
