I've been driving a Peugeot 5008 == Stellantis, for 5 years now.
It's the last Stellantis car i will ever drive, and i decided this already 3 years ago way before i would expect these ads to show up.
Next year i'll have to choose which will be my next car i think, lots of things to consider.
But it will not be Italian nor French and very unlikely American.

Did we require yet another reason to not to want to own a Jeep?

Apparently the Stellantis executives think so.

Numerous mechanics consider Stellantis one of the worst makers seen in the last 2 decades.

Yea and Stellantis (Ram and Jeep) as well as Ford and Chevy and Toyota are charging ridiculously high prices for their vehicles. You can actually pay over $100k for a truck now with all the dealer markups and add-ons. Some of them have been sitting on dealer lots for years. Look at the videos of guys walking the dealer lots with '23s and '24s still unsold. Something has got to crash.
I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.

Their transmissions alone are justification for taking the entire management and engineering teams out back to be shot.

you know, I am starting to think the solution is to not put mail boxes in things.

Do we really need to get mail everywhere?

It's mad half assed that people keep mailing virtual parts.

its like a product that has to assemble itself for a few years. with video games, people are now SERIOUSLY not buying on release because they learned that its going to be a ruined experience until they get the first patch. So they are basically selling beta versions? It started like a joke, but now if you wait there is 2 possibilities
1) you get a better version and a better memory of the experience
2) company disintegrates and you get it in the virtual bargain bin

Its so much of a joke, I think it basically takes away from bragging rights. Like anyone is going to keep believing people that like bragging that they are happy with the purchase with how much BS fronting is going on, I think when the experience is really shoddy like pop up's in the car, they start thinking you are a fool instead of a baller (if you are into that kind of trash)

so you buy fronted code AND junk mail later (and possibly more code). The spirit of the updates was supposed to be like a backup plan B SHTF thing, and instead its something you rely on.   :-DD

The closest analogy I have is like leaflet distributors climbing into a fire escape on the side of apartments to throw pamphlets for Chinese food through your window. Or like a service tech walking into your office room to plant junk mail when hes allowed contractually to visit when the air conditioner breaks down. Like damn bro WTF is your job description? does the front desk know about this activity?

It's so hood. Like if you tried the physical approximation of these things you would get like assaulted.

Or LOL, its like a paphleteer attacking you on a red light. Let me just walk up to your car and throw some garbage on top of the map you have open on your passenger seat, or taping it to the console over the radio. They would literally have like a fair chance of being shot doing that.

IDK what other side channel junkmail analogies are good. Maybe putting flyers into the money tubes at big box stores (pneumatic mail) or throwing fliers on cafeteria conveyor belts?

How sad is that though, they need to put advertisements to on a high value luxury item like a jeep lol, acting like they are some broke joke. its barely acceptable to put ads in a free service

I shared this story on another forum, and a member there linked another story where the Stellantis execs mentioned that these ads were the result of a “software glitch”.

Color me skeptical. Most likely they consciously attempted an additional revenue stream. When it backfired, then assigned the blame on the software engineers.

(starting at minute 1)

We should have known better :)

Currently driving a Stellantis car myself (Opel Grandland Hybrid4) - I certainly not suggest to buy it, or any other Stellantis car.

The Jeep pop-ups can apparently be disabled by going to the Jeep Connect website. First, however, the car owners have to create an account with an email and password and agree to a company disclosure.  :bullshit:
Disclosure. What disclosure and why should there be one when all they want is to turn off the distractions that can put them at risk whilst they are driving.

Quote
Drivers said this week the ad appeared repeatedly, at every stop. Jeep said the pop-up dash ads were intentional
Maybe regulation is needed that say when an accident occurs due to driver distraction and the infotainment system is found to be aggressively advertising things on the dashboards directly at the driver the onus and responsibility then falls on the car manufacturer.

was Mercedes  or other Bmw  who wanted a pay per uses stuff in the cars,  rent options ...   that new thing was coming for sure

I bought a 2021 car just to avoid too much electronics, and a huge screen dash .of the 2022 and up .....  think  it's my last car

i'm getting sick of technology i think,    give me back control,  no gimmicks, standard windows controls,   not the f##$%  once you push it, it doesn't stop,  an rear camera ok  but not essential

even car a/c now have climate control, humidity control,  front settings rear setting independent of the front  and others .... and you know  that's all theses gimmick who break 1st

I'm dreading when I have to replace my current vehicle.

How integral is the infotainment system in most vehicles? As in, will the ECU refuse to even start the vehicle.

With any newer second vehicle I buy, I will want to strip any of this crap out, along with any network connected spyware.

So potential customers can effectively be conned into buy a car with these unwanted features:

Not an expert, but I can see this being hidden until they "activate" your car after purchase.

I got confirmation further down the thread. When they report the sale, they’re asked if any Stellantis service contracts were purchased and the options are yes or no. If yes, they’re asked get taken to a screen to build it out so they can be charged and the contract registered. If no, it activates the Stellantis service contract ads so the dealer can’t even bullshit their way out of it.
Reminds me of misrepresentation or "not as described" where it suddenly starts behaving in ways not expected after the sale but didn't exhibit these behaviours and no notice describing them before the time of purchase.

Stellantis = Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler and Ram. That should tell you everything you need to know before you buy one of their vehicles.

given a 4 man crew,

old jeep : assembled from a crate thrown out of a shot up plane in 5 minutes under fire in the pacific jungle, illuminated by mortar flares, modern price would be ~$16000, built using manual labor (fairly paid)

new jeep : requires 3 men to subdue psychotic mechanic after 5 minutes of disassembly work, in a bright climate controlled facility with 16 snap on chests, built by advanced robotic labor (poorly paid), $40000

Only $40 grand? You may be lowballing it.

Check this video, jump to 3:15
Granted, it is a nice vehicle, but still.

Heh; back in the 19-ought-80s, a friend used to describe the Jeep Cherokee as "the vehicle of choice of Central American death squads", which indeed seemed to be the case. (El Salvador in particular.)

The car industry is going down harder than someone swimming with a concrete shoes.
Environmental regulations, forced electrification, CO2 norms. Couple this with supply chain issues from 2 years ago. They also wanted a paradigm shift, because cars became engineered to be unreliable and people got the hint. And ridiculous lineup, where slightly different models exist in 100 different configurations.
I'm not surprised they are scattering to have different income sources. But this is not it, I will rather take apart the car and disconnect the antenna before I see ads in my car.

They'd probably make it a condition in the terms and conditions that they need to "communicate" with the car after a period time in order for you to continue to use it. Citing to ensure "safety", "firmware upgrades" to keep your car "safe", "reliable", "road worthy" and "up to date/"modern newer pretty trendy in line with all the other cars to stream line the user experience with all other car owners  :bullshit: " or loose the warranty. I see can them trying to same thing in the future on, "updates" are important for things like the "AI" so it can detect and help prevent road accidents forgetting about all the other distractions on the dashboard.

Sarcasm: We believe PAYING PER WHAT YOU USE Is  the FAIREST WAY to pay for it, look at gas, electricity and water (rubbish, water is recycled and cleaned and filtered back in), when you go to a shop and buy things.  We can provide you with endless parts providing you pay per what you use.
