you all saw the Dubai Pig butchering scam arrests?
« on: March 07, 2025, 02:47:12 pm »
entire buildings to house the "workers"
hundreds of computer terminals
they even have a pharmacy inside
 :o

the YT description says
"In all, 2-3,000 people were arrested with the majority deported. The ring leaders were jailed and more than $20 million was recovered."
i think the value should be closer to $1 -2 billion, not $20m

i dont think this will end
they have so much resources to procure entire buildings to run scams
you think a single arrest operation will stop it ?

Interesting with the doctor and pharmacy inside yeah.

The telecom companies are clearly complicit in some way, they would know how many calls are going in and out with false caller ID.

But, as stated, Dubai now seems to be a "no go" area for the scammers. So it seems, that public action *does* help to reinstate public order. Unlike India, Pakistan, Myanmar with obviously tight connections between the scammers and local politicians/law enforcement (* I highly assume, most of the mentioned do a good job, it's just that there are a lot of bad apples in the basket...)

I wondered about that. Somewhere there's a gateway with physical connection to the PSTN. Doesn't that have to be owned and operated by a telco?

i always wonder how crypto was tied to this
the original video says that the scammed money is used to buy crypto
which means crypto is a huge facilitator to these operations
crypto is used as a washer

on the other hand
there is also the direct crypto hype and washing

its insane
