Youtube Movies clickbait
« on: March 22, 2021, 04:53:26 am »
I am seeing Youtube videos suggestions appearing on the right hand side with all the other videos that looks to me like full movie thumnbails with the full duration. When clicked leads to a video trailer that is just a couple of minutes long. There doesn't seem to be no "Buy or Rent" on the thumbnails the actual to distinguish them.

I would not buy something I can't download or "rent" to see it once and have pay to see it again for that individual video. I go to other places for that sort of thing like Netflix or Amazon Prime where I can see a whole load of them.

Whether they are labelled or not as Buy or Rent not great seeing that sort of thing in the results and I already pay for Premium and don't want to see results with things I have to pay more for and possible tricked into clicking them.

Amazon has a filter for what is included in prime and I see non incuded videos are labelled accordingly.

Just checked - in Germany, the movie appears with a really huge "KAUFEN ODER AUSLEIHEN" (that's "BUY OR RENT") button on the top of the list, then again with a smaller button in different color with (again) "KAUFEN ODER AUSLEIHEN" further down the list. Plus a couple of other buy/rental movies.

Probably a matter of advertising standards (EU/German versus UK standards?).
So for me, this is not misleading, but annoying for sure.

I have YT Premium and I used to get suggestions from the Youtube Movies channel but not anymore. Can't remember exactly what I did but it could be a combination of:

- training the Algorithm
- telling YT I'm "not interested" or to "don't recommend this channel" when given the opportunity to on the YT home page
