Kria SOM Carrier with Dual FMC?
« on: August 17, 2022, 03:10:34 am »
Hi, I'm taking a look at the Kria SOMs at the moment to create my own carrier for an SDR project.

I would need to be able to fit 2 FMC connectors to interface with an RF front end I have in mind, the FMCOMMS5. For that I'd need 160 user IO pins by the looks of it.

However, taking a look at the SOM datasheet it looks like there's only 127, the rest are hooked into PS via MIO.

Am I simply out of luck on this front? Is there an alternative / competitive SOM that will do the job for me? I'd like to keep similar or better available resources if possible, but I'm not sure there's anything close to being cost competitive to the Krias.

Do you need an Ultrascale+ part, and a Zynq SOC? Or can you live with a Kintex-7 FPGA?

Is this for personal/hobby use only? Or are you looking to develop a commercial product?

The Analog Devices board is already $1300+.

ULTRAZED-EG4 seems to fit the bill. It's about $600.

Also, it is likely that the AD board is not using all IO pins on the FMC. You don't need to connect those.
