Adequate/Needed Driver sources??
« on: March 16, 2021, 02:09:55 pm »
I've recently acquired another (2nd hand) Laptop, that I'm presently VERY happy with!! for only a few hundred Aussie Dollars...
(An ASUS ROG G75VW, 1920x1080, 200gb SSD, and 750gb HD, NVIDIA GEFORCE 2gb 670M, and 24gb RAM!!)

The previous owner had wiped the drives, and re-setup Win-10 on it. (An older version!). There was no ASUS drivers in any folder.
I know I can search for them on line, and have initially got some drivers like the ATK Package to get the likes of the Keyboard back-
light working etc. Now, most (all?) of the Drivers available, have not been updated for Windows-10, so should I use them???   :o
I've allowed my system to 'UpDate' Win-10 to a later/latest operating system version. (Not just the 'minor' updates), and I was VERY happy
that it did so, by remembering ALL my personal settings/crap-removal etc. Now, OBVIOUSLY it seems that Win-10 KNOWS how to 'talk' to the
vast majority of PC/System Hardware now, as it is, by itself...  but here-in lies my REAL question, (sorry!)...

That being the case, should I simply rely on the latest Win-10 to 'talk' with all the devices, or download drivers/software from the likes of
'NVIDIA' etc etc, (prob out of date now!?), for this Laptop, or just let Win-10 deal with it/talk to it ??   :palm:
Diagonal of 1x1 square = Root-2. Ok.
Diagonal of 1x1x1 cube = Root-3 !!!  Beautiful !!

Search in the hardware manager  for the devices vid's and pid's  in the hardware info tab    and a google search may give you some results

Windows 10  can accept in some cases windows 7 drivers with no problems,  you can do a manual installation IE: tell windows to search in directories or folders not the web.

Microsoft wont have all hardware "specific brand"  or "specific devices" .... they can't host all the planet drivers  loll

For a direct device manager shortcut on the desktop,  create a shortcut  with  devmgmt.msc wrote in it

Windows is barely capable of updating itself, so I never let it update hardware specific drivers or anything else really. Its built in generic drivers for sound, mouse, and keyboard will generally do the job unless the hardware has special features, but for anything else I go to the manufacturer. Nvidia for their video drivers, Intel or AMD for chipset drivers, etc. I would think Asus had anything else you need on their site.

I'd let Windows do as much as it's going to do then have a look here:
