Lenovo laptop: KB & mouse works on ubuntu but not Windows?

...and neither do USB HID's by the looks of it?
Thought this was more of a software issue than repair so i'll post it here.
Basically i bought a laptop (Lenovo G50-30, model name: 80G0) that was destined for the recycling bin because keyboard and mouse don't work on windows, i can't even install the windows OS. It does go into the install process if i boot from the USB flash drive but i can't click or select anything.
The guy who sold the laptop had installed Ubuntu on it and everything works fine. I've never come across an issue like this, is this a problem with the BIOS or does it just need a good reset? 

Ps: if i enter BIOS keyboard works fine.

I tried a USB mouse but got no response, the LED does go on and it works on Ubuntu, but as soon as the windows installation window comes up there's no cursor.

Go into the bios and reset it to defaults. There's a "legacy support" option in some BIOS'es which fecks up windows installs. Seen it a couple of times.

Failing that, stick an external USB keyboard in it, install windows then update the BIOS from Lenovo's web site. That'll reset it.

There's also an SMC on there which sometimes goes wonky on some Lenovo machines. You need to physically disconnect the battery to reset it on the consumer models (there is a little button that does it on the Thinkpad line)

After a bunch of setting and resetting i was finally able to install windows and everything works perfectly fine 
Unbelievable that this otherwise perfectly good laptop was in the e-waste bin.
Might have to visit the local PC guy again to see if he has any more of this e-gold in the e-waste.
