Mate desktop - making window resizing "detent" stronger
« on: November 26, 2025, 10:18:33 am »
Running Mint Mate and quite often I need to run five instances of USBDM. To make it all fit nicely I have to resize these five program windows. Start them all up one after another and they are all on top of each other as expected. Resize the first one, then when resizing the second one, as the borders coincide they will weakly lock together to aid in making the borders overlap perfectly.

Is there a way to make this locking or detent a bit stronger than the default strength so I don't have to be quite so dexterous with the mouse?

The best method is probably to write a script (and / or launcher) that opens all those 5 instances of your program, and then  use wmctrl to reposition and resize those instances.

Didn't know about that command. I'll have to look into it.

I do not know what desktop environment you have but in XFCE you probably need to look for this settings:
