Xbox One S gets stuck during boot at "Who's Playing Today" screen
« on: September 28, 2024, 04:46:42 pm »
Someone has asked me to fix their Xbox One S. I didn't know where to put this post, but technically, it is a computer, just disguised as a gaming console.

During boot, it gets stuck at the Who's Playing Today screen. A web search taught me that pressing and holding the Xbox button on the controller bypasses this screen and takes you to the login screen. However, it only works during that session, and comes back at the next reboot. MS advised a factory reset, but that's not a real solution, and when I tried it, it didn't help.

Is there any way to look at the OS like you do on a PC on a gaming console like this? My searches have yielded next to nothing. And of course, MS has farmed out their support to Asurion, which only covers units under warranty.

I figured it out. You have to hold down the Xbox button on the controller for a few seconds. It will then allow you to logon. I had to do it a few times before it "stuck" after a reboot, but it's working perfectly now.
