I'm curious, why ask here?

Doesn't it suffice anymore to tell Tequipment that one is a member of EEVBlog and they
issue the discount automatically? At least they did when I bought my oscilloscope.

Too many non-participating members signing up just for the code, and they have to be purged manually (= a lot of work). So when the code was changed after having been leaked to a coupon site (they're not willing/able to lose 6% of all orders), the participation requirement was added.

And it's turned out well from what I've seen, as quite a few that would have sat back and never posted have become active members (seems to help get them over their initial shyness).
