It's interesting that those DP 3500 DMMs have the same "Guard" terminal that is on their voltage standards. I'm not sure I understand its purpose on the DMMs.

I have the user manual if you are interested. It is explained in there. My HP3456A and Prema 5000 meters also have Guard terminals (so probably also explained in the manuals).

Note i had to replace all caps in these. They leaked badly! If your standards have the same brand (Illnois), replace. Some of these are from those meters:



Others came from other equipment, If you see those Rifa X/Y cap, replace also. They are smoke bombs and will go bang.

Picked up a Xantrex XHR 40-25M power supply that appears to never have been used.  Looks like the only time it was ever taken out of the box was to take pictures for the auction listing; there's not a spec of dust or dirt inside or outside.  Got it from a government auction for $170USD shipped.
It even came with the original manuals, including full detailed schematics, parts lists, and detailed descriptions of the function of each subcircuit.  I don't know if I can legally upload any of it because the manuals explicitly state proprietary/copyright protected and are for US government use only.

40V @ 25A continuous rated, 10-turn pots, remote voltage sensing, can be controlled externally with digital logic or analog input (resistance-based or voltage-based), all the good stuff.  Looks like it was manufactured circa 2000.  The US government must have paid a fortune for these.

I'm mostly excited because it's the first decent variable power supply I've had, and I think I got it for a decent price as well.

Good score, NewPerfection, and welcome to the forum. These are great power supplies and don't take up too much space on the bench. I have one from the same series, an XHR7.5-130 that trades off voltage (7.5V) for more current (130A).

I have an old 5V 300A switchmode power supply somebody gave me years ago, I've never actually found a good use for it.

For example:
I have an Agilent 6V 100A power supply and it works very well in charging Super-Capacitors to 2.7V
It is really something to see for the first time, a super cap take 100 A until it reaches almost 2.7V
With 6V, I can even have 2 super caps in series taking 100A to 5.4 V

No, just kidding, although that'd be one possibility. I only really needed a bit more than 60 amps to calibrate my electronic load. The rest is just headroom. I have tossed around the idea of modifying it to have a couple of ranges in order to balance out the voltage/current ratio a bit more for more flexibility. 15V @ 65 amps would be nice.

If you want 15V at 65 amps the easiest way to get that is probably a hot swap server PSU. Most of them are 12V or a tad higher, 600-1200W is not uncommon, and they're very compact and well made.

Yeah, low voltage is not optimal for long distances. Of course, one could boost it for transmission.

  I've got one in the queue that died in an HP server. A quick peek revealed much complexity inside. I may start a thread although I seem to recall some already that might be similar enough. TBD.

Yep, I spent ~3 yrs watching eBay to get the 2 P6021's I've got and luckily I never paid more than 200 US for each including postage to NZ but that was a few years back. Now it seems everybody wants one. 
One's got the terminator like yours and the other came with Type 131 amp IIRC but with of course with the US 110VAC only PSU. Luckily from another member I recently picked up the 230VAC PSU for a fair price so now I've got 2 and good to go. Better still, they even agree on measurements with each other. 

The manuals for them are good to have and easy to find on the net. Be careful with it, they're a little delicate and be careful not to overload it.
Even if you biffed the other stuff you still got a good bargain.
