Thanks Dave for offering us up these alternatives, I remember once stating in another thread that I probably wouldn't use anything other than Youtube but today whilst watching a couple of online movies I received the popup pictured below, if it is their intention to start asking viewers these types of outrageous questions then I'm done with these dickheads altogether and will not hesitate to look elsewhere.

Linus Media Group keep talking up Floatplane Media as an alternative to youtube, but not sure where it exists outside of their forums.

Not surprising, as Floatplane is their product.

People keeps telling about this, but I can't find any information on it, so it basically may as well not even exist

That's a big fat FU sandwich
It's just another source of revenue.
You can earn real money doing surveys - and this is just Youtube's implementation.

Its designed for paid supporters ($3/month), somewhat as an alternative to Patreon while integrating forum and streaming services.
I don't believe the intent of their platform is to allow any sort of public access or be ad supported. The problem with trying to compete directly with Youtube (they won't), is youtube can consistently lose money and not care about it.
Nice list of alternatives. Curious question, if an author on YT chose not to use advertising/monetize and avoided any music or other potentially copyrighted/ad-supported content, would ads still show on those videos?
Thanks for the info Dave. I was especially excited to hear that you have the raw videos 720p on eevblog.org, as often I'll download a couple of vids off youtube (using ssyoutube) to get 720p versions when I travel for my chromebook. Only minor request I would add is, can you turn on
FancyIndexing so we can sort by date. It would also be a pretty good thing to host on Amazon S3 buckets, where you can turn a bucket into a simple webpage.

I trued that and it simply costs to much. Bandwidth costs money when you have a few thousand people download your hundreds of MB videos.
This was an interesting video. I watch Youtube mostly on my XBOX - will check tonight if they offer apps for Vimeo or some of the alternatives shown and switch.
I don't usually care much about this kind of stuff, but youtube is annoying me a little bit lately with too many ads and this whole demonetization thing hurting some content producers I like. We know short term nothing happens but if people (viewers) start leaving Youtube they either change or a viable competitor arises in the mid/long term.
Dave
Do you have plans to upload you videos to the internet archive(
http://archive.org )
I found out that some one have all ready upload you videos up to #846 to internet archive.
When will they come out with a P2P based platform that rewards users (even a little bit) for seeding downloads?

What with? "Download credits?"

Priority access to fast downloads sounds good. Maybe "seeders" can get paid a little if there's an option for downloaders to pay a little for access to fast downloads without having to seed.
