WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where is it defined that april fools jokes should be started at april 1st?
In our country most jokes are started week(s) before and declared april fools at april 1st.

In Australia, while planning may be done many weeks ahead, the actual joke is typically presented before midday on April 1st itself.

That is interesting - and it has a certain appeal.
Do we have any other takes on how April Fool is observed around the world?
I just looked but internationally a lot of april fools jokes are published days to a week or so before.
Give an example press conference from Richard Bransons expedition to the middle of the earth 30 march 2012 with the follow up press conference would be sunday ( april 1st).
If it is a few days before it is harder to spot and you see that newsagencies and papers fall for it, escalating the stories.
Well, this year it fell on a Saturday, but during the week there are many on the local radio stations. last year I did a snake trick, using some plastic strapping as the reptile. Receptionist fell for it hook, line and toilet. Then claimed it was no joke, but as I have been the recipient of many attempts in the past I classed this as a win.
I'd scrub the operating system and install CP/M on it. Also take those funny jacks off the front and glue some banana jacks on for easier access.
I actually saw it come up well before midnight here and though , bit early for a April fools joke, but then though.....oh well I guess NZ gets April 1 a couple of hours before us..........would have been better left until about 11am Sydney time.
What's makes Sydney people so special?
I'd be surprised if it didn't take two people to get that thing in & out of the dumpster without a hernia - Dave & his local friendly Keysight guy who happened to be in town demoing the scope to a customer perhaps.
Got it out myself.
No idea who put it in there though...

It's the 2nd of April. You can come clean now.

His hurt ego. I'm told it's visible from space.
I liked it, it was lovely, tongue totally in cheek, test procedure almost a trademark of Dave ( aside from him actually using a multimeter to measure if the SMPS transformer in a scope has an open circuit primary) and a thing of beauty and a joy to behold when he got the case off and had a gander inside.
The loose connector is possible, but I have a suspicion there was a little guy who was there putting it in there first, after doing "the deed" and getting the unit written off, who is mighty unhappy that "his" scope was unceremoniously whipped out of the dumpster before his end of day, so he could go and "find it just lying there" to take home.
Most obvious double-bluff ever, follow the mastermind :
- Dave really did find a 300k scope in a dumpster, months ago.
- He obviously couldn't resist sharing it with the world.
- Yet, the taxmen would have come knockin', asking for their share. They always do. Easy 50k.
- So what can an honest man do ?
- Make it look like an april fools' joke.
- Dave scores a scope, boasts his incredible luck on April the 1st, fools the taxmen and us all thinking Keysight's behind it. It's brilliant.
- Why is this a list ? Nobody knows.
The tax man doesn't work like that in Australia.
We don't have that same concern our American friends have with their IRS. For example, we could win $10M in lotto - and we don't pay one cent in tax. Put it in the bank and earn interest, though, and we pay tax on the interest - but only on the interest.

1. You live here and you are a special person.
2. What other city has people that throw away $300k scopes.
Do we have any other takes on how April Fool is observed around the world?
Here in Spain it's on December 28th.

Well....
That makes it interesting.

In numbers ? I think -1.
All I ever see is, come monday, some poor small screen CRT TV standing on the sidewalk, waiting to be picked up the next day. A horribly disfigured couch that even the stray cats dare not sit or urinate upon. An unidentifiable pole of some sort. Never a $300000 scope with a loose power connector.
Dave has taken all the romance out of it.

I've thrown $300k+ items in the dumpster.
They weren't worth anything except to a museum when I threw them out, but that's what they cost new.
(eg. Fully loaded SGI workstations - I had 3 in my house at one point)
thought this was an April 1 joke .. then remembered 'fake news' is now globally banned .. gotta be for real, wow!
I have an interested party for you. I was talking with a friend about your amazing piece of luck. He in turn contacted a guy called Ivan, here in Sofia. He will be contacting you or..please email me and I will pass on your information. Good luck and thanks for your videos

I do believe you can sell it on eBay. I have seen electronics shop inventory sold over a million dollars so some one on there might give you a pretty penny. I'd let her ride for 100k.
