hey everyone ive got myself a gopro hero 3 white i need to know if this connector is replaceable or even what the name of it is so i can attempt to repair it ive attached an image it apears to be a 6 pin flat connector no idea where to purchase one a flat ribbon cable slides into it from the left hand side any advice on repairing would be much appreciated thanks
The key phrase you're looking for is "FPC connector"
Thank you now to figure out if its posible to swap it out and what i need haha
Well, it looks certainly repairable. The question however is if you are capable of doing it. It is not hard but at the same time you need to have at least some practice ...
1) Tools: I would try to remove the old connector using hot air. Be careful to not lift the pads from the pcb ...
2) Check if there is any further damage to the board or to the ribbon cable.
3) Select a proper replacement: Farnell for example lists about 100 different types of 6-pin FPC connectors. Thus, you really need to be careful selecting a matching one. Try to measure the geometry of the existing connector as accurate as possible. What is the pin spacing? Where are the pads located? Connector width and height ...
Then order a couple of those that match best your measurements ...
Maybe that helps ...
If you don't have the right tools don't even think to start:
1) Hot air
2) Kepton Tape
3) Solder Wick
4) Solder iron (you never know)
5) Flux
6) IPA
7) Solder
on top of that do you have any experience with SMD or Hotair soldering? If no please practise on a scrap board first.
Your hand must be firm and solid, you must feel like a sniper with only one bullet left, if you missed it ... mission failed. Think twice, then think again and then do it. (of course I esagerated here, but I don't want you destroy your gopro)
