Are any of these types of devices safe? I would like to place this in a wall behind a wallswitch, so I'm concerned for firehazards. Looking at the specs it should be ok.
Or should I look at other sites to order something like this? (RS components or others?).
Other things I should look out for? Ripples on the output?
Best regards,
Jan
I find the whole thing very risky... my concern would be the legal/insurance implications if there was a fire.
There are ac/dc converters in the same form factor from known brands. A quick MOUSER search shows a MEAN WELL unit around $7. How would you integrate the whole thing? How would you handle the mains connection? How much spare space you have in the electrical box?
See attached image. I was thinking of putting the 5v power brick into the wall electrical box and fuse it. The 5v will drive an esp32 board and a relay to switch lighting. Also thinking about putting the relay and power brick into a small 3d printed box separated from the esp32.
The Hi-link power supplies have been discussed in length
here with a good review
here.
I've tried them out with success, but I also used a MOV, fuse and a thermal fuse to be safe. I also bought them through aliexpress and received counterfeit ones, so I'd buy them through their website instead.
Edit: *standard warning about mains electricity killing you if you don't know what you're doing*
