A practical demonstration on how to use advanced oscillocope trigger features to trigger on an unsyncronised infrequenct runt/glitch pulse.
Includes Pulse/Glitch, Runt, Interval, Zone triggering, and infinite persistence display, and waveform update speed demonstrated and explained.
Using the Rohde & Schwarz MXO4, Siglent SDS2154X HD, Keysight 3000T, Tektronix Series 2, and the Rigol DHO800.
Hi!
I originaly posted this in supporters lounge, but since you already have published it, I moved it here..
I have two comments.
At 14.09 I'm not sure "Find level" works exactly like you think. AFAIK, that is same "Find level" like when you press trigger level knob on Keysight. Your glitch is at signals mid level...
Same functionality exists on Siglent trigger level knob , Rigol probably too.
Nothing special to any glitch finding. Just set trigger level at half the signal.
That needs to be researched a bit more, maybe.
R&S MXO 4 Series manual:
Find level
Sets the trigger level automatically to 0.5 * (MaxPeak – MinPeak).
LeCroy WaveScan does detailed analysis of signal and finds these things automatically..
Second, it might be nice to mention that Siglent SDS2000X HD (unlike R&S) has functional zone trigger, pretty much same as MSOX3000T.
Apart from that , nice and useful video for beginners.
Best,
Sinisa
Nice video Dave!
I actually made a video that goes through most of the MXO trigger types and how to configure them.

Ah, fooled
Entirely coincidence there was a glitch at the mid point in this case.

Interesting, sounds like the industry leader in this case then.

It does, but given that zone trigger isn't the thing to use here, I didn't mention it twice.

Nice. When do I get zone triggering?
very triggering video indeed!
Dave, since the glitch happened every 15ms, but it sometimes happened on the top part of the signal, wouldn't the 32-ish acquisitions per second when triggering on the bottom one make sense? since about half the time it happened at the top of the signal, so it wouldn't be that it was triggering every 2 events, just that it couldn't also trigger on the events at the top, no?
Yes please! More videos on tricky triggering tricks!
Nice. When do I get zone triggering?
The zone trigger will be available mid next year - it's an
ASIC-based trigger, so orders of magnitude faster than traditional software-based triggers.
It will be available for MXO4 and MXO5 - implementation will be the same for both
