Hi All,
Another question
Are there any "rules" when to use the
polyline (as a rectangle) and when to use the
rectangle when creating custom components (schematic symbols)?
For example: creating a relay, not sure what to choose for the "box" around the component?
And once again, thanks!
Assuming you're talking about the schematic symbols:
I personally prefer to use the rectangle for ICs that have no internal structure visible on the schematic (only pins).
For components like relays where there's internal detail, the rectangle looks weird because the internals have to be drawn with a polyline which have rounded edges. So I draw the rectangle around it with a polyline too.
As far as actually using the components on a schematic, it makes no difference to CS.
You can always browse the vault and see how similar components were drawn.
Hi PicoSD,
Thanks.
Yes I was referring to the schematics (updated the question). Its probably just a matter of taste. But as there is this "rule of thumb" to draw current flow from left to right, i thought (hoped) there is also some rule of thumb for designing these symbols.
For example, I draw this simple relay, two versions. TBH i don't like either one
I think the second one is pretty standard, although I usually make the box blue as well. Sometimes I take a look at how Sparkfun does their schematic symbols and mimic those.
