He knows what a dropcam is, right?
Tell him to put the laptop is a few inches closer to the door when looking at porn. Yes, that's a joke... but you can see the screen on the dropcam.

Forget the monitors... now we can't see dave at the whiteboard and the little bench, so you can't see quite a bit of the space he uses to make videos. I would rather have had the dropcam moved by the door and shoot OVER that desk, so the guy gets privacy and then also its more towards the video area in the back.

Welcome Seppy, whoever you are. Just remember that the Chocolate factory has borged Dropcam, so you need to get the free replacement dropcam from them before the close of the free exchange end February. As Dave will still keep the old one it should be the first teardown of the EEVblog infrastructure.

Both:
You need one to do the other in Dave's Cave...
I mean, when Dave tells you to "move those things there", it's not going to be ONE small Rigol, it's going to be a wall of vintage heavy metal.
And dropping one probably means being a test subject on a "what hurts more, AC or DC?" video.

Most definitely how much crap can be piled on to a bench. I don't see any signs of the lab being tidied, just crap pilling up on the end of Seppy's desk.

I'd fail the "bench test." My dad and I have a terrible avalanche problem, and I don't mean diodes. (I think it's genetic)

Hostgator, Cloudflare, New change to the website that was pushed and not tested, can be anything because it was a (not found) so maybe as simple as the main folder having the wrong name.

Sorry folks, I would have fixed this sonner except I have been rather unwell, I was sleeping at the time Dave contacted me.
It wasnt quite that simple, HG were careful to prevent dave from fixing the problem, they also set the extended immutable and archive attributes after changing the permissions.
I have brought the forums back online, they have NO excuse for this kind of behaviour, let alone the wait in the queue to get it re-enabled.
Here is what they did:
992 2015-11-05 12:50:12 cd ~path/obscured
993 2015-11-05 12:50:13 chmod 0 .
994 2015-11-05 12:50:16 chattr +ia .
995 2015-11-05 12:50:23 ll
996 2015-11-05 12:50:26 chattr -ia .
997 2015-11-05 12:50:30 chmod 0750 .
998 2015-11-05 12:50:33 chmod 0 forum
999 2015-11-05 12:50:36 chattr +ia forum/
Here is my criticisim of these actions:
1) They failed to do it right the first time, they took the entire website down, how unprofessional!
2) They not only made it unreadable, they set the extended attributes so that dave could not fix it.
2) This IMO is damaging a server and I would very quickly move my services away from them, all trust gone.
Here is what I did to bring it back online...
1020 2015-11-05 20:33:18 chattr -ia forum/
1021 2015-11-05 20:33:21 chmod 740 forum/
Really HG... you have to wait for this?

I would seriously make sure that the Site, Forum and DB's are all backed up to a remote service (not under Hostgators control),
Possibly even just downloading the Directories and DB Dump every hour or so, to Dave or GNIF's computer.
Then if you need to jump ship, you will still have the latest data (even if they do revoke file access), then all you have to worry about is moving the domain pointers to another host (Hopefully Hostgator are not in control of the Domain records!)

Thanks for fixing that. Yes, Hostgator were in no hurry to do it themselves, even when they said they would escalate it.
Turns out the marketing manager of Hostgator is a fan, so I have direct way in. I will be sending a very nasty email. Hopefully it will get escalated and we'll see what they have to say for themselves.
I understand their need to comply with a DMCA, but taking down the entire forum for complaints over a few posts it beyond acceptable.
In case you want to know what happened, the email request ended up in my spam folder, so they didn't hear back from me and shut down the whole forum after the 3 day grace period.

The way they did it was silly, but if you got the email and didn't respond, you can hardly put all the blame for that on them. You run a website this popular and you don't have a spam filter exception set up for the company that hosts it?

Slightly off the current topic, is anyone else getting this effect below using Windows 7 Ultimate and Chrome, it happens randomly on any page of this forum and other sites I visit are just fine, clearing cache and history makes no difference but a refresh or window re-size seems to clear it.

I just took a quick glance at what DCMA is and I don't understand how it applies to a forum where the person put the content here.
The way it works is, anyone can make a DMCA claim regardless if it's justified or not, and the web host is legally required to remove the content, no questions asked. The process to oppose a DMCA claim is much more difficult and rarely if ever results in penalties for phony claims.

I hesitate to make a definitive judgement without all the specifics, but it seems to me that HG contacted Dave to hear his side of the story about some DCMA complaint and when the heard nothing from him after three days they acted. I don't necessarily condemn them for that but making him wait in the problem queue for the "unlocking" is not satisfactory.
Neither is shutting down my entire forum to resolve the issue. They know this and have said it won't happen again.
If not the US where the majority of Daves followers are then where? Australia? Antarctica? that would be cool. Cold even.
US = 20%
UK = 10%
Germany = 10%
Australia = 10%
and down the list it goes.
If I was to move my server it would probably be to the EU.

Isn't the DCMA available to Dave too. He may benefit at some point from it in the event his content is "freebooted".
I have used the DMCA before to have a duplicate website shut down, and also fake Youtube channels shut down.
My server does not have to be in the US for me to use the DMCA, it only requires that the server or company the person is using be US based or owned.
