I have these kick ass Sony djm full over the ear head phones from the 90's when I used to spin records at clubs. Unfortunately they are half the reason my hearing sucks now. But they will work off my laptop, but they are made to hit hard and loud, as they have to be louder then the club speakers. Not a problem when you plug them into a mixer, but thats not exactly portable, they will make your ears bleed while giving great sound quality with lots of bass and mid base,
Problem is when using the laptop or other devices dont have the watts to bring out the lows. Using an EQ will just distort the bass or turn down mids and highs creating an illusion of bass which isnt desirable.
I thought I saw on TechMoans YT a small usb powered box that did this but cant find it. Anyone here use pro quality headphones and like their music as loud as you can stand, in this here band? These head phones go so loud people next to me ask to turn them down. Sound quality and small size a must, having mid low , and high eq's a bonus on the box.
cheers havent been able to find my user acct here miss daves whacky antics and bob IS my uncle.
BTW due to my disability had to down size the apartment and dont have my electronics lab anymore so I can build an amp, would be a fun project to match the Fets etc to make top sound a/b amp.
plenty of headphone amps to chose from in both the hifi and pro audio world, the usb powere is the limiting factor. The cheapskate/bodge method would be to adapted a set of usb powered speakers, even a watt or 2 should be enough to burst yer eardrums.
https://aliexpress.com/item/32811709386.htmlI built this a couple of years ago, obviously still available. Did not purchase from this seller, and I'm sure the kit is available from other sellers.
IMHO quite nice (though lacking earth to chassis, which needs to be added for safety).
As a kit, the assembly was a bit of a challenge, as the instructions were wrong, probably not an issue any more.
Don't expect genuine high quality parts, but I tested mine before soldering, and all was fine.
Or: just search for "headphone amplifier" on Aliexpress or ebay - there are *plenty*.

So this will have really low noise THD? If it just makes it loud that no good as im a total audio snob. Bough some top of the line bose and JBLs from best buy and they suck; bose has no lows, the jbls are not flat seem to have peeks in mid base and treble so you have to EQ the hell out of them to get a flat sound.
I mistyped, meant I dont have my electronics lab not even my hako iron or fluke scopes, so have to buy, but dont want to get ripped off like with the 300$ jbls that are just cheap chinese speakers.
I basically have room for my art studio or electronic lab and well the art studio pays the bills.
Thanks for the replys.
btw that does or doesnt have analog inputs? I need 1/8 or 1/4" or even rcas, My stuffs all analog, I still use records and my digital music is just records recorded to the lap top.
but carrying around a record player and stack of vinyl to listen to as i'm out walking around in a back pack is slightly difficult.
bose has no lows
No highs,no lows,it must be bose
jbls are not flat
JBL=Just Bloody Loud
What is stopping you from googling around, by which you’d discover the myriad commercial and DIY headphone amps that exist? Whether you want to buy one or build one, those resources are out there. Everyone here is glad to help once you have concrete questions, but there is the expectation that you’ll do your own homework first.
(I have both bought and built headphone amps.)

My dog ate my home work. Then puked it up. Then ate it again. Can I have an extension ? I never did home work. They tell you all the answers in class and what they dont was in the text. Like taking notes, don't you have a memory? Or are you planning to relive those days in undergrad med school when you worked with cadavers and your paper smelled like formaldehyde and death. Cant forget that smell.
Doing a bit of googling doesn’t require you to dissect embalmed cadavers.
Is there a reason you didn’t do that and can’t do it now?
