I'm about to order both a Siglent Waveform Generator and a 2-ch oscilloscope.
Any idea if the hacks to upgrade those rigs are still working?
Not seen any for the DSO's but AFAIK the 2042X and 1032X can still be improved.
Do both of these have the "easy" telnet way to improve them?
I'm looking for a 'hack' to see processor temperature on SDS1104X-E.
That one sounds like an application software one, may be doable but may not exist as an option to just turn on. You could try looking at the programming/debug headers on the board and see if it just gets output there, but otherwise threading in a thermocouple would be easy enough.
As for the unlocks, if I remember right, recent firmware versions removed the ability to do it through telnet, but you could still downgrade the firmware and make it work. I'm sure there's at least one thread on it around.
I also have recently purchased a Siglent SDS1104-E 4 channel scope. What I am interested in is hacking the AWG function and more so, the 16 channel logic analyzer function.
At one 1GS/s I do not expect much for any ability to increase bandwidth
The AWG connects through a USB 3.0 connector and the Logic analyzer connects through what is called an SBUS. Sun developed the SBUS, except Singlent is using a unique type of connector. I looked at it it has 19 pins pins and an outer ground.
My thinking is find that type of connector. I remember Digi-key has a section for connectors that fills maybe a dozen pages. If it exists there is a way to find it. then do a DIY module for it. The DIY part is because it would just be fun for me to put together.
My thinking continues that with an activation hack, and the correct connector, the signals could be analyzed to create the correct pin-out, and since logic is simply high/low the box could not be that difficult.
RE: the AWG. it uses the USB connection...and it is only 25MHz so how hard can that be?

I have two of them, so with some help I can explore and how to do this, since bricking up one, no big deal for me since I can use the other.
If, I need to look into the firmware and the code. I know didly, but with some help I can access it, download it, and put it out there.
IF, there is no way this can be done. I will at some point purchase the logic analyzer adapter. right now, the product is too new, and both the pricing and availability is too much and questionable capability about the performance.

Total nonsense.
The Siglent Sbus and Sun’s SBus are
not the same thing. Siglent just concocted the name without thinking or checking into prior use.
Sun’s was a computer bus, like PCI, which Sun later moved to. Siglent’s is just an HDMI connector misappropriated for its digital logic analyzer inputs.
(Sun’s is a 32-bit bus, while the HDMI connector is 19 pins. So it couldn’t even
begin to carry Sun’s SBus, as it doesn’t even have enough pins for the data lines, never mind all the auxiliary lines a bus has.)
You dont even need to hack the SDS line, look through the threads and you will find what you need to figure out the codes for your particular unit and just enter them like normal
Bottom line though... all of siglent's gear is easily hackable, just depends what you want to do with it
The biggest thing to figure out if you can make your unit become a different labeled unit is to find out if they share the same base hardware or not.. if they do then you are set, if not, then no you wont get a magic upgrade beyond just normal codes
And if you do hack a unit.. download the NAND first and save yourself some trouble if you hose it
