Fun project with high voltage capacitor
« on: March 14, 2023, 10:25:33 pm »
Hi all,
I never worked with this type of capacitors, so I need a bit of advice: https://www.ebay.de/itm/313841877950
I can't tell if the 1k eur price is ok or not, I have no reference. I looked for it on AVX but they don't seem to have this part on their web page. There are TRAFIM products on their site with part# DKTFM1/2/3/4, but this part is DKTFM7.
Do you think they are ok for using it in high energy pulsed discharge applications like can crusher, melting things for youtube, etc?
I am very well aware that they are deadly, I know what to do about that, I built tools working at 30kv but not with that much energy in them.
Thanks.

€1000 way high, this is a specific purpose cap eg induction heater or broadcast or PFC.

For DIY HV DC fiddling look for plate supply amateur transmission or B+ caps,

We have bought many 0.1 uF....500 uF 1000v..25 kV at Ham fleas or auctions for $10..50

I mean, that's an okay price for what it is and does; but what it does is not what you want to do.  It probably won't last long under that kind of service.  Broadcast, hmm or PFC, yeah, something like that.  We never used voltages that high for induction heating.
