JLCPCB "max 300 designators per SMT order."
« on: May 29, 2026, 10:38:07 am »
Trying to place a very large JLC order for a customer, 1K boards, >500k parts, $25K of parts in their parts library.
We have previously done a few proto runs of the same design.
When uploading the BOM I now get the error "Max 300 designators per SMT order, otherwise cannot be parsed and mounted, pls modify and re-upload"

Obviously I've emailed them, just wondring if anyone else has seen this ?
I'm aware if issues with large numbers of parts on a single BOM line and have split this up.
(BTW this  appears to be a limit on the expanded line length after converting R1-Rn to R1,R2 etc. format , not the number of parts)

Seems like a temporary glitch / someone left a debug switch on.... seems all OK now, ready for my customer to check out their $10K cart..

Thank you for your message, and we sincerely apologize for the confusion
and inconvenience this has caused you.

Please be advised that the "max 300 designators per SMT order" rule was
only applied temporarily. It is no longer in effect. Could you please try
refreshing the page and re-uploading your BOM and CPL files?

If the issue still persists, please feel free to let us know, and we will
look into it further for you.

For so many boards it's for sure not the prototype assembly you are using.
They likely have this limitation for the prototype, as they assemble many type of boards at the same time before depanelizing it.
So I guess if you load up your board with so many lines, they cannot do this, because run out of feeders.

There are only about 20 BOM lines - the error message implied a limit on numbers of designators, not lines.
Like I said, we have run the same design previously in small qtys. They don't obviously differentiate between proto and production assembly, though they probably have different internal processes depending on volume.

it appears this was a platform-side limitation rather than anything related to actual assembly capacity.

For anyone else running very large builds, if you suddenly encounter this error, it may be worth contacting support before spending time restructuring the BOM.

Large-volume builds like this are a good reminder that online quoting platforms occasionally hit edge cases long before the manufacturing process itself does.

I think so, as i was quoting / ordering a couple of boards with 800+ designators
