Leads on PCB manufacturer that does Z-milling?
« on: January 20, 2020, 03:22:50 pm »
I'm looking to get some PCBs made and would like to do z-milling on them to a certain depth like the attached picture. I know PCBWay does this. Does anyone know any other GOOD suppliers that do this? It seems to be hard to come by (at least for me).
I would also imagine if I wanted to buy a CNC machine designed for PCB milling (desktop type) and mill these myself for a larger production run, it would probably not be the best idea since I am using FR4 and it is hazardous to inhale due to the micro fiberglass dust? Anyone have experience milling PCBs to comment on this?

Thanks!

ICAPE can tell you if they have a factory that can do that. They are a broker and I've sent out a couple of designs to them and the result is very good.

Silly question, if you are trying to achieve what's on your picture, why not just use a rigid-flex PCB?

You'd want a good vacuum ventilation system to remove any dust created and filter with HEPA filter.
Its hazardous to inhale and will also destroy the machine if it starts to fall into the leadscrews/internal areas of the CNC.

I would speculate that its not worth it for a large production run, it may be worth it for prototyping small volumes or testing various cut designs.
