Low viscosity potting compound for electronics
« on: November 03, 2022, 01:58:51 am »
Hello everyone
I’ve seen it many times on some electronic boards I’ve repaired over the years, a clear jelly- like sticky substance.
What is it and where can I buy it?
I need a stuff with very low viscosity to fill some narrow areas as well as all the volume where the PCB is located.
Thank you!

On a site like Mouser, search for potting compound. You can check the spec sheets and go from there.

The clear "jelly" stuff that I have used is called Magic Gel from Raytech.  https://www.raytech.it/
It isn't low viscosity though.  Nor is it cheap, but not many good potting compounds are.

Edit: The Magic Gel datasheets do state "low viscosity" - so check the specs to see if it is suitable for you.

Thank you, could you suggest what is it’s approximate shore A hardness when it dries?
There are no viscosity numbers in the specs… but it looks very liquid on video.
10 min working time is very short …

Tough-seal fits your description, but: black, and cured is rubber-like-consistence; it has ~1h working time, available in 50ml cartridge to try out(dispenser & mixing tube recommended for partial use).
