OSH Park shipping confusion
« on: March 13, 2020, 03:22:56 am »
I thought OSH ships by USPS to Canada, indeed their update emails and my order details show USPS.

However the link in the email for the USPS tracking goes to UPS.  :scared:

I emailed OSH about that confusion and I don't remember how I got my last boards.

Please someone confirm that the boards indeed go by USPS to Canada??

UPS consolidates and transports the package a part of the way, but eventually dumps it on a post office, I presume, wherever it is cheapest for UPS. Here is the tracking for a previous set of boards sent to Germany, oldest event first:

01/24/2020 10:36 A.M.    Germany   Delivered
01/24/2020 7:37 A.M.    Germany   Package processed by international carrier
01/21/2020 7:14 A.M.    Germany   Package processed by international carrier
01/20/2020 9:33 A.M.    Germany   Package processed by international carrier
01/20/2020 7:43 A.M.    Germany   Package arrived at international carrier
01/08/2020 10:24 A.M.    Germany   Package arrived at international carrier
01/07/2020 8:14 P.M.    United States   Package departed international carrier facility
01/06/2020 8:52 P.M.    United States   Package departed international carrier facility
01/06/2020 2:20 P.M.    United States   Package arrived at international carrier
01/06/2020 1:01 P.M.    United States   Package departed international carrier facility

Thanks. I have an immediate negative reaction to UPS. OSH told me the same thing, it will get to me by postal service.

The option of FEDEX Intl Priority for $15 is great.
Boards to Canada by next day, all brokerage/fees included.
Now that APC (Alberta Printed Ccts) is gone -Oshpark swift service with above shipping appears to be the alternative in that niche.

That is quite a bit faster. My last order with free shipping (tracked above) took twelve days to clear German customs. My present one has apparently been sightseeing the last three days in Fontana, California.

Last time I used OSHPark, FedEx IP was around $70 to Alberta, so I used USPS.

The USPS over UPS scheme usually takes between 2 weeks and a month. I remember 20 years ago, without any UPS innovations, letters from the US arrived in 3-4 days. All you needed is a $0.30 stamp. Now, Chinese ePackets are somewhat faster.

That was back in the day when the U.S. Post Office was hobbled by government regulation and an outmoded edict: to provide a public service and ship parcels, for anyone, at close to cost. Now it is free to join with the private sector, innovate, and promote the greater efficiencies and profits of a free market.

I just happened to see this, so sorry for the late response.

For our free International First Class shipping, OSH Park uses UPS Mail Innovations, which flies the parcel to the destination country, slaps local postage on it, and hands it off to the local postal service for final delivery.

Thus, it will always be delivered by your local postal service, and not a shipping company like UPS.

We do also offer the option for express international delivery with UPS and FedEx, but that will incur a shipping fee at checkout and your order will indicate that shipping method:

Please always feel free contact our support team at support@oshpark.com for any questions.

Thank You,

2 to 4 weeks just for shipping!?!  Does DHL deliver to Canada?  I ask because using Chinese fabs - JLCPCB most recently - shipping time tp the US is just a couple of days via DHL and the price was $17.25 USD. The whole process - building the PCB and shipping - took 5 days.

Don't get me wrong, I use OSHPark a fair amount but if it took a month to get it, I'd go somewhere else. As it is, it takes almost 2 weeks end to end and that's on the edge for me.
