Nothing new.
I had a couple way back in the 80's, one was a pistol type with a drill attachment, torch and the soldering head.
The other was a proper pencil type and iron only and both were stuffed with NiCad C cells.

Its not that its new or not, the jank factor is off the charts.
Clearly a reused case from another instrument, loose 18650 cells taped together with cheap yellow tape, random soldered and taped wires hot glued in place, no heatshrink used. The wallwart could even be transformer based.

And they supposedly have 998 pieces on hand, right.  ;D
