Solder Mask Expansion on SOT353
« on: September 24, 2014, 06:44:52 pm »
Here's a pic.  I thought that this manufacture was pretty good. But, what I couldn't see with the naked eye, I see now with a USB microscope.  Kinda dissapointed.  Is this normal for SOT-353 chips?

SOT 363.  Looks liek they were able to get some between these pads. Though, the alignment is Horid :(

Guess it doesnt really matter for how cheap the boards are. the chips do still work.

Is the shift consistent on all boards and the entire board or just with that footprint? Have you checked your gerberfiles to see if the alignment issue may be located there?

Yes, the gerbers seem to be aligned correctly.  The shift seems consistent on the whole board

This is exactly why manufacturers provide expansion rules for their processes. :)

well, they also offer a high tolerance option too, so I wonder if selecting that, if soldermask expansion is more aligned and in between the sot353 packages.

I will have to email them.
