Has anyone ever wrote a SVD file?
« on: January 04, 2019, 10:42:07 am »
I am thinking about writing SVD files for some ARM7 chips like LPC2103 and AT91SAM7S512. Those files are intended to be used for 1) generate a partial device header file, and 2) for Eclipse CDT debugger’s peripheral view.

1. Am I using the wrong tool for the job?
2. Am I reinventing the wheels?
3. Is there any tools other than a general XML editor that can accelerate this process?

1. I think it's the right tool
2. Who knows, if they exist but are not freely available, then you may have no choice.
3. I use xmlcopyeditor myself, but the Rust programming language seems popular in some quarters for processing XML and other kinds of device files. https://github.com/japaric/svd is a SVD parser in Rust.

I use SVD's to create a number of different Forth memory mapped files at http://hightechdoc.net/mecrisp-stellaris/_build/html/register-generator.html#svd2forth
