PIC programming tool problems
« on: November 14, 2021, 02:14:35 pm »
Until yesterday my PICKIT4 worked just fine on both IOS and WIN platforms.  After MPLAB core device updates on both machines MPLAB v. 5.4 does not recognize either PICKIT4 or PICKIT3.  I have tried the Hardware Tool Emergency Boot Recovery procedure for the 4.  IOS does not 'see' the 4 while attempting the recovery, but WIN does see it and goes through the erase process.  Still, after reconnection, MPLAB on either platform does not recognize either tool.  I have also verified that each OS platform does recognize the devices attached to the USB ports.  Also tried the hold-button-down-while-plugging-in process on the 4.  No Joy!  It powers up with solid purple light and no recognition by MPLAB.  Thoughts?

At the moment I don't want to ask Microchip for a replacement because I'm not convinced the PICKIT is the problem.

tri installing an older version of MPLABX (or reinstalling the same one). I've seen many posts about this issue but i wasn't personally affected so i don't have a better solution

Same happened to my ICD4 just last week. On the same windows PC, the ICD4 works fine with the latest programmer (IPE 5.50?) but is not working with MPLABX 5.50. I went back to MPLABX 5.45, and then all worked fine. After that, tried the latest MPLABX again, and it also worked. But not very well. Hanging regularly. So for now I stopped using the latest MPLABX (5.50?).

I ended up going the opposite direction. Uninstalled 5.45 and installed 5.5. Now my Mac sees the 3 and the 4. Strange.

Probably because the installed version doesn't come with the core modules update :)

I also got into this issue and I'm sorry its not fresh on my mind. I believe I installed standalone software for pickit3 that helped.
