Pickit 4 "Programmer to Go"
« on: February 13, 2019, 02:28:10 pm »
Purchased a Pickit 4 because the advertised "Programmer to Go" feature was needed by a client to do field upgrades on their equipment. I was unable to discover how to use this function. I contacted Microchip tech support and was told that that an firmware upgrade was required and that it should be available in September or October. Eight months to write code that reads an SD card and outputs the data? Seventh graders are doing that now with Arduinos.

A. Its not 8 months, its 20 months! Pickit 4 was released 1 year ago....
B. Pickit 4 work based on scripts to avoid having re-flashing firmware for different families. That's why they have to rewrite all programming routines for every mcu.
C. I agree that this is a long time, for marketing reasons they released the hardware without proper software support
