Read protection NEC processor workaround
« on: May 24, 2019, 08:29:20 pm »
Hello,
I have been asked to help with a repair for a battery pack from a Audi q8 hybrid.
After a small impact, airbags ware deployed.
The problem now is, that the battery will not be activated because it stays in crash mode.
It seems that there is a workaround for this problem.
By reprogramming the processor in the battery management system.
The processor is a NEC UPD76F0192GC.
I can't find a datasheet on this type, probably because NEC has become RENESAS.
Is seems that this processor has been read protracted.
To get rid of the protection, is seems that the boot memory needs to be reprogrammed.
To read the data out of the processor.
I can use some help to do this.
The questions I have right now:
Where can I find e datasheet for this processor.
Which programmer do I need to get communication.
And a lot of info and inspiration.
There are people that has done this.
So it is not impossible.
The question is how.
I hope you can help me with this.
See attachment.

Have a look at https://www.eevblog.com/forum/microcontrollers/renesas-nec-programmer/

But I don't like your chances of defeating the read protection that may be present on the chip.

Their part numbers were never really clear, apparently this is part of the "V850" series.

Ask Audi how to verify that the battery is roadworthy and take it out of crash mode?

 \$\Omega\$Audi will not do that!
You have to by a brand new battery pack for about €6000.
Here is a link to e site where people tried to do this.
