Topic has aged, but I thought I'd reply anyway:
I'm using Renode somewhat regular to co-simulate where the full processor HDL model would tick too slow.
Used qemu in the past to glue virtualized hardware to a MIPS core, Renode makes this process simpler while coming with the same transaction library internals, more or less.
The C# interface is quite elegant to extend and there are no major issues with Mono on Linux, at least.
It's fairly easy to interface to a compiled simulation HDL model such as Verilator or CXXRTL which comes in handy when developing SoC-styleIP cores.
The only drawbacks I've found are the built-in Python 2.0 interface (I assume this is gonna change) and the lack of a thoroughly conceived property management to interactively change parameters in connected simulations.
Overall however a very valuable tool to test SW against HW. Recommended, thus.
