samsung GT-N8010 android software upgrade from 4.12 to 9 Android

Need help!
Followed cookery book recipe to upgrade Note 10.1 Everything went well until tried connected WiFi router.  The WiFi is fine with with the PC, iPad, iPhone and other El-Cheapo Chinese Android tablets. The Note 10.1 running 4.12 was fine too but with Android 9 the tablet successfully discovers & connects then disconnects a few seconds later and then reconnects ad-infinitum. Is there something that's not setup properly?  |O
