Upgrading the ESP8266 to 4MB
« on: August 05, 2016, 05:37:57 pm »
Hello again.
I made another video, this time on upgrading the ESP to the biggest flash chip it can support.
It is really simple, but I hope it'll help someone.

As always: if a moderator tells me to stop posting my videos I will.

Pretty slick! Easy to upgrade if you need more space.

Thanks.

No doubt, but it does demonstrate that anyone can solder these, even if it takes extra cleanup work, etc.

You gotta start somewhere.

The problems were caused by the camera nearly touching the board to get the shot and having to work around it. It would be much faster and cleaner if I didn't have to record.

thanks for that video,

For the soldering I would recommend not adding solder on pads after you've wicked them. The part will be raised and pads are uneven height, making it more difficult to solder. You can put some flux if you like though.

Agree, I normally put some solder on just one pad.
Line up the IC, fix it with that one pad. Solder the opposite pad and than finish the rest.
