10 Million Views
« on: January 31, 2013, 11:11:46 am »
For those counting along at home, I just hit 10 million views according to Youtube internal stats  :-+
It took almost 4 years and 472 videos. Some people do that with one video in a few days   :o

Thanks for watching!  :-+

Dave.

Dave.

The impressive thing isn't the number of views, it is the number of videos and the general quality maintained.  :-+
After all robrenz gets only a few views for his good work and some dammed lol-cat or justine biebster gets 1 million hits in a day. :palm:

Maybe if Dave did his reviews dressed only in his Speedo swimming costume, the count would go up dramatically with all the ladies flocking to the site.
Mmmmm....maybe not.  :(

No, I just have to blow shit up. Like that Mehdi Sadaghdar who just got 5 million+ views for his DIY rail gun video!
He's up to 7 million views for 6 engineering related videos.
I'm clearly doing it the hard way...  |O

Just make a video blowing a PIC micro saying that the only way is the AVR way (or vice versa). Or Agilent, Tek, etc.  8) 8) 8)  :-DD :-DD

Well, go for it! Let's have a blow-up Wednesday!
There is no shortage of cheap DMMs out there.
Get something that can deliver 2000V continuous & pulsed 12,000V (without blacking out the whole neighbourhood) and Bob's your uncle.  :D

Well done Dave :)
You make it look easy but I'm sure it's not. Thanks for all the hard work.

Well, go for it! Let's have a blow-up Wednesday!

I think Big-Bang Sunday would cover more bases ;)

Anyway, back to work on my video of cute kittens watching on as a pair of large breasts lactate chocolate then explode - in a non-destructive way of course. I call it Chocolate Kitten Big Breast Bang :)

And i am sure we, as forum members, would b able to send assorted items for Dave to blow up.....:)
I can't think of a better way for old/dodgy gear to "Retire".... ;D

3 step plan to solve that :
- sell test equipment  and electronics related stuff
- buy kitten
- post pictures of kitten.

we need more kitten playing with resistors or circuit boards.

here you go : if this doesn't speed things up i don't know what will.  (technically it's not a kitten but a stuffed tiger welp i got at Devcon yesterday from the Samtec connector guys, but hey you gotta give me credit for trying...)

it's not the railgun.. it' the unibrow dance that does it there.

Maybe you need to introduce the kangaroo-hop and pull stuff out of your marsupium to tear down.

Don’t you worry Dave hard working people have never got what they deserve in this world, but I can tell you right now those people who watched that 10 million times have watched YOU and learn something from you and have respect for you, you can’t say that about others who post boobs or kittens.

I've found the EEVBlog trough youtube, at first I watched a couple videos, interested, and then... Mass downloaded at least 50 episodes :D

Few possibilities I've seen talked here around, kitten... Perhaps I've seen once a cat in one of Dave's videos, I might be hallucinating, or it might be something coming out real :D

On the High Voltage / Blowup thing... I must admit, it would be fun to sometimes see an episode (or an ending, Mythbusters docet) with some kind of blowup inside. Funny, yes, but also perhaps dangerous. I don't know exactly what spectators this blog has, but I can imagine it is watched by a sort of mature audience, whom would know what to do when they see some things :D But, on the same other side, some disclamers would have to be inserted for those that might go try certain things perhaps... unwisely.

And on another side, I don't know much how Australian regulations handle such things. I've built a couple Tesla coils, and here in Italy regulations are there but not extremely strict. Reading on other boards, it seemed to me AU laws were a bit stricter than ours.

Bahahah, that board is from '97... I was going to head to devcon this year but plane tickets were going to be killer at the last minute. Worth going next year?

Yeah, those soldering videos have really ramped up in last 6 months or so. It's the Youtube keyword algorithm working in it's usual mysterious ways by somehow now rating those videos higher up the search food chain.
Similar thing happens to Afrotechmod's videos for example. His videos are great, but you gotta wonder how a MOSFET tutorial video gets 1.1M views. I didn't even know there were that many people in the world who would be interested in that!  :o
Yet other great detailed content might get no views because it never gets ranked anywhere in Youtube's fickle wisdom.

Blowing caps video was fun. But this is fun only once.

I'm clearly doing it the hard way...  |O
Five of your top ten videos are tutorials about basics. Soldering, setting up a lab and very useful PCB design video. We all love your rants, tear downs and everything else. But those videos won't make us better at electronics. IMHO that mosfet tutorial shows where the "market" needs are.

Your power supply, dummy load or dc-dc converter videos are also near the top. That what I would love to see. Simply don't forget about hobbyists. More tutorials, even about boring basics, like how to choose a transistor for a project. How to build something, like a power supply. Not only "grab an lm371 and transformer" but everything, including mains wiring to a transformer and drilling holes in an enclosure.

Personally I would like to see more useful equipment like your constant current and power supplies. For example small generators or amplifiers for different types of sensors. I love those videos because you show completed device and also describe in detail design steps and how it works. That gives me a ton of knowledge and I can create something on my own.

And since I'm writing about your projects. Finish your PSUs please.
