SMA connectors
« on: March 06, 2016, 08:43:17 pm »
Hello,
to make it simple i have data output from FPGA kit through SMA connectors that i will need to connect them in some way either on an external driver or on a bread board to connect then to a LED array. I tried to search online for a module that takes input from SMA ports and op to leds or even op then to regular wires to be connected on the board but didn't find any. has anyone here worked with them before?

Sorry, what do you mean with "op"?

Hi

SMA's are a very common RF connector. They are designed to work with coax cabe. The target market is high speed and RF signals into the microwave range. The only way to connect directly to them is with coax.

The closest you are likely to get to a direct attach would be an SMA to BNC adapter followed by a BNC to banana adapter. If you have a number of outputs, it's cheaper to get a new FPGA board for $10 than to buy $30 worth of adapters ....

Buy yourself a proper SMA connector and proper cable than crimp the SMA on the one end and solder a pin header on the other end.

easier  to get some ready made cables and cutting them up than buying crimp tools and figuring out how to use them
