15mhz phase locked vco/oscillator???
« on: September 21, 2020, 02:30:24 pm »
I would like to phase lock a 1mhz oscillator to the WWV 15mhz signal.
I have a nice narrowband 15mhz front end with agc and a nice 15mhz
at 200mvpp output under most band conditions. Could I inject the 15mhz
without a 15:1 divide chain directly into a 4046 running at 1mhz and expect
it to maintain some sort of lock condition? I was also thinking of a 1mhz
crystal controlled oscillator with a trimmer capacitor that was free running
perhaps 1 or 2 hertz slow and 'push' it with my 15mhz signal to maintain
synchronized oscillation like the color oscillator in the old NTSC T.V. sets.
Perhaps a dual gate fet for the injected oscillator? Any ideas? The goal is
a WWV locked 1mhz lab reference without doing the 'GPS Disciplined'
option. WWV 5mhz and 10mhz are not usable in my lab do to ethernet
cabling leakage and local interference. 15mhz is a 5/9 signal most of the day.

For frequecies in that range, forget the 4046 or 74HC4046.
The VCOs will play along, but the PFDs won't; you'll have significant jitter. Not because the parts are bad, but it's just the nature of PFDs. The propagation delays through them are just a fact of life.

You need to look elsewhere. I can suggest the ON Semiconductor parts:
MCK12140
MC100EL1648

But I'm certain other suppliers also have ICs for this.
