16x2 LCD Display PC Board too wide

I'm building an esR meter and ran into a problem with the Displaytech 162B LCD 16x2 display pc board width.

My enclosure is a Teko slope faced box model 690D.5 and the internal width is 78 mm, my new digital caliper shows the display pc board is 82 mm ! 

Has anyone ground the edges of one of these 16x2 units ~ 1 to 2 mm per side?

Hold the LCD board against some powerfull light source. It should be clearly visible if the edge is free from traces. If so, good luck with the file/grinder.

I think the edges are sealed to keep the LCD liquid inside between two glass panels, if you grind that away it may leak out

I looked at a handful of LCDs I have sitting around and none of them can be whittled down to the dimension you want.  And I think the mounting hole dimensions are standard so I would think you need a bigger boat...err, enclosure.

Yes that is correct - shave the edges of the PC Board...
