5 color smd led footprint
« on: November 10, 2018, 06:04:50 pm »
Can anyone point me to a data sheet or footprint drawing of a 5 color,  5mm x 5mm,  rgb + ww/cw   led that I guess is a 10 pin LCC package.  I have no information about the manufacturer, they are just generic far east parts.

Google brings up about a hundred million hits for rgbw led strip, not what I am looking for

It would be helpful, if you would post a picture.

Here is a method, that might work... Go to Ebay.com. Do a search and find the generic part, by the picture. When you have it, look at the item description. Ebay sellers often use the OEM part number, in the title, even though their product is generic.

Having the part number, go to Mouser.com and look up the part. Download the data sheet.

If that doesn't work, try Clive, at BigClive.com. He knows a lot about LEDs.

I hope that helps.

I didn't know there was such a thing. I've not seen any more than four colours in an LED package: red, green, blue and white. The colour temperature of the white can be altered by activating some of the other colour LEDs.

Found a picture of them

I want to get a pcb for these designed and made by Monday mid morning. I haven't got the leds with me but I have had the size of them confirmed so I should be able to scale the picture to find the pin spacing.

It's interesting that they're six resistors. I wonder why?

Sorry I can't help. You'll just have to measure one with calipers. If you have a high resolution scanner you could also give that a go by scanning something of a known size, such as a rule, placed next to the LED.

I never noticed there are six resistors in the picture, very odd. The piece of kit I saw last week is 12Volt, with 3 leds in series with 5 resistors, 1 for each color.

Looks like the same kind of LED as this: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/DC24V-China-Manufacturer-Double-copper-FPCB_60759750311.html

Probably an Epistar 5050 WRGBW something. (Warm white/RGB/Cold white)
Can't find any datasheet even on Epistar's website ( https://www.epistar.com/EpistarEn/index ), but I can't seem to find any RGB LED there.

I'd venture that the pins are 1 mm apart, as on those 5050 chips the pins are usually spread over a 4 mm width, but of course this is just guessing.

This might be similar: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100-100Pcs-5050-RGB-CCT-LED-Chip-5050-RGBWW-led-5050-Sanan-SMD-Beads-White-Warm/32863169857.html

I've just bought some.
I'm interested to see if they have the same issue I've seen with RGBW SK6812s where the light from the blue LED leaks over and activates the white phosphors (which meant the blue wasn't as saturated as I'd have liked).

Thanks for the diagram, that is perfect.
I have just done a job using hundreds of rgbw leds so they can be mixed to more or less whatever color is needed.  I told the designers to avoid using blue if at all possible, so they chose ... blue  :palm:

You can also measure it with calipers, add 0.5mm to the pad dimensions, create a footprint, print it at 100% and place the component on the printout to verify you didn't do something silly.  I've done this more than once for random unknown parts...

Done, this will be filmed and in a dumpster within a few weeks. No worries about how long it has to last  :-+

So it's a single use device? Interesting. Please post the video, when it's done.

It is a big film production. If anything leaks out of the department before release date, people will get bits of their anatomy removed with a blunt knife.
