Adjustable HV PSU

For a project I would need an adjustable high voltage PSU. Voltage range should be between 250V - 15kV and current is enough 1mA. What would be best approach. I was thinking of using flyback transformer but it would have to be custom made. Flyback transformers from CRTs would probably work but I want to include off the shelf parts in my designs.

Don't do this yourself. Fluke has the 410B up to 10kV, for higher output find adjustable modular power supplies from Spellman on ebay. They usually go for less than $300, I've got a 50kV model from them iirc.

Some electrophoresis power supplies could help in some case,  but dont cover the full range you need

I forgot to mention. This PSU will be inside a project and controlled by MCU. I was looking at applied kilovolts PSUs but they are a bit expensive

Spellman HV psu can be controlled with a 0-10V input, this one is the type, this seller will accept $300-$350 for it, I think I bought mine from him

Hi, when I'm looking around on the ebay for a HVPSU for Xray tubes, I got interested in the same model PCM50P75X2287. Would you mind sharing your experience with driving such Spellman OEM high voltage supply?

You just need to make a control box with a db25 connector, two potentiometers and a switch iirc, also a multimeter to show the proportional 0-10v

Thanks! Just a late note: some Spellman manuals can be found with google, just search the product family code (PCM in this case).

I've used ignitor coils from failed gas boiler control PCBs- You can also get them new if you like.
Ebay abounds with mini HV modules and coils. Just add your own control loop.
Dont forget the bleeder.

I just received my Spellman and it turns out the customized (PCM50P75X2287) model has a different control interface from the usual PCM modules  :palm: . It has a DB25 connector rather than the 15 pin connector on the manual, but on the PCB, it's internally connected to the 15 pin footprint.
The wiring for the DB25 connector is:
mA Prog: 13
kV Prog: 6
mA Mon.: 10
kV Mon.: 4
Enable: 2
Interlock Out: 9
+10V :23, 24, 25
GND: 1, 5
Fault: NC
Something unknown: 13, 14

Also the local programming potentiometers are not installed, the logic of enable is inverted (grounding to inhibit) and it doesn't seems to have slow start.
