Altium behaving strangely.
« on: February 22, 2015, 01:21:01 am »
Hi Everyone.

I’ve been working on a PCB project with Altium and I’ve just come across a strange problem. For the first time in this project, when I make a change to my schematic, and compile and update my PCB, all of my components seem to re-import themselves into the PCB workspace as if this is a brand new design and never routed. Does anyone know what has gone wrong?

Did you do a full reannotate while you had broken links ?

Try this

Go to pcb. Project -> componentinks
Hit the button to move all to the left column
Then click the button to link by designator.

That should restore the links

I did that, and I have gotten the same results, all of my components have bee re-imported complete with rooms, all nicely sitting in their room ready to be placed and routed,...how frustrating, anything else I can do?

Delete them all and re-import?  Then re-re-import to see if it worked?

What's the ECO saying it's updating?

That is very strange.

You  must have done some operation to let altium believe the components are gone.

Did you explode any compinents to primitives  while they were all selected ?
Did you do a group edit on designators so they are all blank ?

Anyway, altium keeps copies of your work. Go to the project history manager and roll back one or two versions and see if the problem goes away.

Well, I haven't got a clue on what I did to cause the problem, I was routing for ages, I had to swap two wires around on a chip, and when I recompiled and updated it all went very bad. Who knows what steps I performed in between.

Finally I recreated a new project, included my schematic and PCB file, and order was restored to the Universe. I just hope the problem doesn't came back.

Thanks for your help.

I had this happen and I don't renumber how I fixed it (though free electron did help). It fixed it for like 90% of my parts, some fuse would keep resetting itself but I just waited for the final spin to position it... easier to pretend its not happening so long its not like  15 parts doing it.

In my situation all parts were moved off the PCB area.
I should also say that the PCB and schematic files were first created in Protel 98, so I think this must be the cause of my problem.

Reading this makes me glad that I now use Diptrace
