Bleeder resistor / fusing
« on: November 07, 2021, 09:35:42 pm »
Hello, everyone!
I am an amateur hobbyist trying to build a nice design for a power distribution board.
I have put a 12VDC power supply that takes the 230VAC input from the mains, and with the help of some LM voltage regulators I plan on distributing voltage to several output terminals (see the attachment).

I read that once my ON/OFF switch turns off, and there is no load, for safety purposes I should put a bleeder resistor on the output of the circuit that quickly discharges the capacitors such that it is safe to touch.
Researching into bleeder resistors I found some calculators that would help me getting the value, but I am unsure about the input of those calculations...
In other words - would you mind answering the two following questions?:

1) Do I need a bleeder resistor?
2) (if yes) How do I calculate its value?

Any other constructive criticism is greatly appreciate!

Thanks in advance!

I don't really see a need for bleed resistors here.
But a good idea is diodes from output to input on your two linear regulators. This will protect them when powering down (from the charge stored on your load circuits).
